Performing a standard eye examination in neurology
Michael Strupp, MD, FANA
To correctly diagnose eye movement disorders it is important to:
Take a careful patient history.
Perform a systematic clinical bedside examination of the ocular motor and vestibular systems.
Recognizing ocular motor dysfunction is key to the diagnosis of inherited metabolic disorders such as Niemann-Pick type C because more than 95% of all patients with this disorder show an impairment of vertical saccades.
